“Empowering Through Education: Honoring Savitri Bai Phule’s Legacy and Today’s Quest for Equality”

Hello everyone,

Today, I want to talk about a remarkable woman who made a huge impact on education for women in India – Savitri Bai Phule. Born in 1831, she fought against unfair rules and worked hard to make sure that girls, just like boys, could go to school.

Savitri Bai faced tough times when she was young. She was married very early, at just 9 years old, and didn’t know how to read. But she didn’t let that stop her. With the support of her husband, Jyoti Rao Phule, she became India’s first female teacher.

Together, Savitri Bai and her husband started schools for girls and even for those who were treated unfairly. They believed that education was a right for everyone, no matter their background.

Now, let’s look at today’s situation. While things have improved, there is still a gap in how many girls and boys get to go to school. According to the National Statistical Office, 70.3% of women in India are literate, which means they can read and write. But for men, it’s higher at 84.7%. We still have work to do to make sure every girl gets the chance to learn.

Savitri Bai’s story teaches us that education is powerful. It helps girls become strong and independent. We need to keep working towards giving every girl the chance to go to school. As Savitri Bai once said, “Go, get education.” Let’s make sure every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and make our country even better.

Thank you!
